Cycle ride to Mortenhals

-         See and experience more of Malangen...

If you want a bike ride in the area surrounding Malangen Brygger, we can recommend a trip to Mortenhals. Start by leaving Malangen Brygger and turning left onto the main road. This trip is about 7.5 km and the main road follows the fjord the whole way. Sections of the trip can be a bit demanding as there is an even climb of about 3.5 km.

Nice places to visit on this bike ride include:

  • Folk High School 69 °N, which is situated in the "heart" of Sand/Mortenhals near the main road on your right-hand side after the bridge. For a guided tour, call the school on +47 777 27271.
  • Malangen Church, which was built in 1853.
  • "Gammelbutikken" (the old store) just below the church is also worth a visit. For a guided tour, call +47 777 27102.
  • Bloksberg Gård (farm), which is situated about 1.5 km from Mortenhals Church towards Vikran. This is a sheep farm, but summer flowers are sold here in June. Pot plants, decorative shrubs and perennials are also sold here. There is a farm shop in the cellar selling flowers and their handcrafted products such as scarves, hats, bags, necklaces and earrings. Products made by other local craftsmen are also on sale including woodwork, woollen socks, gloves and quilts. The shop does not have regular opening hours and is open when the farmers are home or by appointment (call +47 777 27336).

On the return trip, those wanting to experience more of the fantastic nature on offer in Malangen can ride up the road by the church and continue round Fjellbygda. This route is slightly more challenging as the road is unsealed and uneven and includes a 3 km climb. An exciting option is to visit the common grazing area at Fjellbygda and Stabben, an ancient Sami sacrificial stone.

Malangen Brygger has cycles and cycle helmets available for our guests/property owners.
